The Shirley Center Farmer's Market hosted its first annual Kids Art Contest last week and it was a great success! Three artists from Shirley, Don Reed, Mary Sullivan and Linda Malone, were the judges and they picked a winner from 27 entries.
The winner was fourth-grader Muse Maclaughlin, whose colorful depiction of a barn and farm scene won the judges over. The second place winner was fourth-grader Zoe Saldana and third went to second-grader Riley Moore. Muse's drawing will be featured on the 2013 poster for the Shirley Center Farmer's Market. He also received a farmer's market gift bag which included goodies from the market and a $25 gift certificate to The Bull Run Restaurant. The second and third place winners received a special bag with a jumbo whoopee pie in it. All participants received a small gift bag as well. All of the entries were amazing and were displayed in the front hallway of The Center Town Hall at the Oct. 4 farmer's market. They will remain on display there through Oct. 11 at the Farmer's Market which will be the last market of the season.
Thanks to Ms. Russell, the art teacher at Lura A. White for encouraging her students to participate in the contest, thanks to all of the students/artists who entered and thanks to all those who came out to the farmer's market this year and especially last week to support the art contest.
