PEPPERELL -- A 21-year-old Pepperell man was killed when he crashed his motorcycle into a sedan Friday night at the intersection of Shirley Street and Mount Lebanon, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation suggests Jack Wilbur was riding on Shirley Street at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck the car at about 8:40 p.m., according to Elizabeth Vlock, a spokeswoman for the Middlesex district attorney.

The driver of the sedan, who remained on scene, was turning onto Shirley Street when the impact occurred, Vlock said.

Wilbur was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

No charges have been filed.

An investigation s being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, the Pepperell Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
