LEOMINSTER -- A Pepperell man fled a BJ Wholesale Club parking lot, striking several cars, when emergency responders arrived to care for his female friend who was ill on Monday, public-safety officials said.

Brian Damouras, 23, of 25 Jersey St., "was having a hard time with his girlfriend being very ill," Deputy Fire Chief Gary Ranno said.

Police Sgt. John Fraher said Damouras drove fast in heavy traffic, off Erdman Way and down North Main Street, passed other cars along the roadway as police chased him. Fraher said he was stopped on North Main Street, about a mile away.

Damouras was scheduled to be arraigned in Leominster District Court on Tuesday. He is charged with failing to stop for police, driving with a suspended license and operating to endanger, police said.

Fraher said Damouras will face additional charges because Damouras struck several cars and almost struck a firefighter.
