For 28 years, the Massachusetts Good Neighbor Energy Fund has provided energy assistance to hundreds of thousands of residents who are struggling to pay their energy bills and do not qualify for federal or state energy funds.
The Good Neighbor Energy Fund began in 1985 as a partnership between Massachusetts' gas and electric utilities and the Salvation Army.
The fund is able to help those in need because of the generous support of the community. There is still time to contribute. Residents can give the gift of warmth by sending their donation, payable to GNEF, to the Salvation Army, 739 Water St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
If you need help paying your energy bill, please consider applying. In order to be eligible for assistance, your income must fall between 60 and 80 percent of the state median income. To apply for GNEF assistance, call the local office of the Salvation Army at 978-342-9407.
I want to thank the community for supporting the Good Neighbor Energy Fund. It is making a difference.
