Safety Day: The Pepperell Senior Center is having a Safety Day from 9- -11 a.m. Open to the public and free of charge. We will kick off the Safe Return program for adults and children with cognitive issues/wandering. We will also be signing people up for the yellow dot and the file of life for your home.
Veterans Breakfast: From 8:30-10 a.m. at the Pepperell VFW. This month's lunch sponsors are Groton Pepperell Rotary and Bormann Brothers Inc.
ShirleyFest: The annual spring community event with entertainment, food, games, and crafts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Historic Common in Shirley Center. Local non-profit groups have the food concessions. Local organizations run a dunk tank, bouncy castle, crazy-hat corner and other children's activities. Three bands, three dance groups, one chorus, and one magician supply the entertainment. Plants, books, and crafts are displayed for sale.
Food Demo: Groton Grange #7 presents a food preservation workshop and demonstration at 9:30 a.m. at Grange Hall, 80 Champney St., Topics include water bath and pressure canning, dehydrating, fermenting, vacuum packing, freezing and root cellaring, and jar and equipment handling. Boutwell House Tour: A guided tours of the newly renovated and decorated 1851 Boutwell House, 172 Main St., Groton, begins at 11 a.m. The tour includes the "Dressing Room" which has just recently been opened to the public for the first time. This hour-long tour will be given by former student intern, Joshua Vollmar, who has completed research on the Boutwell House and the Boutwell family, adding to what we had previously known. Benefit Concert: St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Ayer will hold its fourth-annual Benefit Concert and Gala Reception in St. John's Chapel at Groton School at 3 p.m. St. Andrew's welcomes back soprano Mary Sullivan, mezzo-soprano Joelle Morris, and pianist Scott Nicholas of the Amethyst Chamber Ensemble. They will be joined by Heinrich Christensen, organist and choirmaster of King's Chapel in Boston, and New York violinist Sarah Geller. Proceeds benefit Loaves & Fishes in Devens; Esperanza Academy; and the Society of St. Margaret. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors/students. Children under 10 are free.
June Ramble: Join us at 2 p.m. for a walk down Main Street as we go into the First Parish/Groton Meetinghouse and Union Congregational Church and stop outside the former Baptist church and former Roman Catholic Sacred Heart Church. Please park on the street while being respectful of private property. Meet at First Parish Unitarian Church.
Singer performs: Howie Newman, acoustic guitar and vocals, will entertain at Pepperell Senior Center at 12:45 p.m. He will take a musical journey from the 1900s to the 1960s.
