AYER -- When downtown lights up for the annual Main Street Candlelight Stroll, it looks like a scene from a Christmas movie.
Perhaps that's why Downtown Ayer is featured in "The Spruces and the Pines," an independent Christmas film that will debut Sunday, Dec. 3 on the ION Channel. Ayer, as well as Townsend and points around the area, was featured in several scenes of the Romeo and Juliet-style Christmas tale, and multiple residents were featured as extras.
But before Hollywood can simulate what the holiday season is like downtown, Ayer itself plans to demonstrate.
The second annual Candlelight Stroll and Tree Lighting Ceremony is Saturday, Dec. 2, 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The "magic" of the night in Downtown Ayer will come from the 1,000 candles, hand-made at Ymittos Candle Factory in Lowell. The joyful Candlelight Strollers meet at the Ayer Rail Trail Parking Lot at 4:45 p.m.; there the Ymittos Candles will be handed out and lit for the big stroll.
The Candlelight Stroll begins at exactly 5 p.m. as the strollers begin their glowing walk along Main Street to the Grand Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at Ayer Town Hallat 5:15 p.m.
Main Street Candlelight Strollers will be met at Ayer Town Hall with wonderful holiday singing performed by the Ayer/Shirley Middle School Chorus, and a dance performance by the young dancers of Maria's School of Dance.
