On Monday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., several of us senior members taking water aerobics at the Shirley Pool, sponsored by the town recreation, showed up for the water exercise session, which is held during the summer every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It's a wonderful program that the town holds for everyone interested in moving their joints easier in the water.
We have a great instructor named Adam. We were not told that Adam would not be there that Monday, simply because five of us were not there the previous Friday and did not get that message. While we thought we were waiting for Adam, it was a beautiful warm day, so we went into the pool.
We were in the 4-foot level, moving around slowly, when Butch Farrar came running to the edge of pool shouting at us, "GET OUT! GET OUT!"
We looked at him and tried to explain ... he would not listen to any of us, and screamed again to "GET OUT," like a madman out of control and yelling at us like we were 3-year-olds!
Yes, we understood that there was no lifeguard, and regulations should be enforced. However, being in our 60s and 70s, we thought he could have spoken to us in a more courteous manner similar to, "I'm sorry, but there's no lifeguard here and I'll have to ask you to get out of the pool."
Instead, he was very rude and disrespectful.
All that we ask for is an apology to all of us for being treated with such contempt.
