EMIT, Ending Mass Incarceration Together, distributed 200 copies of the landmark book, "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness" by Michelle Alexander on Wednesday, April 30, in conjunction with EPOCA wrapping 30,000 signatures for Jobs not Jails around the Statehouse.
EMIT, an all-volunteer task force of Unitarian Universalist Mass Action Network, raised $2,300 for the effort, primarily from Unitarian donors. Carolyn McCreary, a former Ayer selectman, spearheaded the drive.
EMIT has sponsored a series of five briefings at the Statehouse in the effort to bring more attention and action to ending mass incarceration in Massachusetts.
