SHIRLEY -- The Shirley, Ayer, Lunenburg, and Littleton Democratic Town Committees and the Indivisible Groton Area StateWatch Committee are holding a public forum with 37th Middlesex District Representative Jennifer Benson on June 29, 7 to 8:30 p.m. p.m. in the Shirley Town Hall, located at 7 Keady Way. The title of the program is "Moving Massachusetts Toward a Low-Carbon Economy."

Benson will be discussing her carbon-pricing bill, An Act to Promote Green Infrastructure, Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and Create Jobs, (H.1726). The legislation would put a fair price on carbon dioxide emissions by establishing a fee and rebate system on carbon to reduce the use of fossil fuels by encouraging energy efficiency and the use of clean energy sources.

In this presentation, Benson will explain her approach to drafting this comprehensive piece of legislation; how it would reinvest funds back into transportation, resiliency, and clean energy projects; how it could save hundreds of lives; and, how it would offer protections to low-and moderate-income households. She will also offer participants information on what they can do to promote clean energy and a strong economy in Massachusetts.

Groups including Massachusetts Campaign for a Clean Energy Future, ClimateXChange, and Clean Water Action back the bill.
