A 31-year-old woman who came to her first book club meeting at a Worcester restaurant was tracked down and allegedly killed by her ex boyfriend — who police say stabbed her up to 20 times.
Amanda Dabrowski had just come out of the restroom at O'Connor's Restaurant shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday when Carlos Asencio found her and stabbed her 15 to 20 times, according to a police report.
Several customers heard her screams and wrestled Asencio to the floor, leading one of them to be stabbed in his lower back, police said.
Dabrowski and the customer were rushed to UMass Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The man was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Asencio is being evaluated by a court-appointed psychologist this morning in Worcester District Court, where he is being arraigned on charges of murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to murder, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
