GROTON -- The new year has begun and ArtsNashoba is kicking into gear on its next production for ages 8-18. Auditioning January 24 and 25, "Reigning Cats & Dogs" by local playwright/composer Steven Bergman, is next up on the stage!

Auditions are from 4 to 6 p.m. both days at the Union Congregational Church, 218 Main Street. For more complete information, visit www.artsnashoba.org or by calling (978) 842-1255.

"Reigning Cats & Dogs" is a new musical about acceptance, personal identity, friendship and loyalty. Chou-Chou has a problem: she's a royal dog, but she's always felt like a cat on the inside. Whether it's a mouse infestation at the castle, or trying to get a performance slot at the Club Kit Kat, she wants everything to be "Purr-fect!" How can she and her feline friends make the kingdom an accepting society? The cast will sing, dance and perform and bring these cats, dogs and mice to life!

Directing the production will be ArtsNashoba Executive Director and Ayer Shirley Regional High School Drama Director JulieAnn Govang. As a bonus, the composer of this musical will serve as the show's music director!

A teacher with the Littleton Public Schools, Bergman's musicals include "Reigning Cats and Dogs" (winner of the 2015 Jackie White Memorial National Children's Theater Award), "Animal Farm," "The Curse of the Bambino" (Lyric Stage Company of Boston), "Four Kisses," "Jack the Ripper: the Whitechapel Musical" (Boston Center of the Arts), "Comedy of Errors," and the new musical, "Mairi's Wedding.
