SHIRLEY -- A new ladder truck will soon be on its way to town.

Voters at a special town election with one question on the ballot approved a debt exclusion 286 to 141.

Of the 4,114 voters, 427, or 10.4 percent, cast votes on Sept. 12.

The new truck, with an estimated $800,000 price tag, will replace a 30-year-old vehicle.

In August, Fire Chief Dennis Levesque said it will be a year before the new truck arrives.

Over 15 years, the truck will cost the owner of a median-valued home $470.16, according to an estimate posted at the town clerk's office.
