GROTON -- Area residents, antique lovers, Groton history buffs and friends will all have the opportunity to bid on a very special antique desk at the Groton Historical Society auction on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Groton Country Club.
Preview and silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the live auction slated for 7 p.m.
The auction will feature a 54-inch antique oak rolltop desk that belonged to the late Groton poet and author Georgess McHargue. She penned several of her first books on this desk, including one that was nominated for a National Book Award, "The Beasts of Never."
Thanks to the donation from Georgess' husband, Michael Roberts, this wonderful desk features two slide out sideboards, two file drawers, four regular drawers, two pencil drawers, a tin letter divider and numerous cubby holes. Pencil drawer and tin dividers are intact. The roll top lock and key are included.
The Groton Historical Society is continuing to accept donation of antiques, uniques, Groton memorabilia and services for their fundraising auction.
If you have items for donation, or would like further information about the auction, contact auction Chairman Anna Eliot at 978-448-0100.
