GROTON -- The Groton Fire Department and EMT personnel served their famous firehouse chili and corn bread to attending seniors at a fire safety event, presented at the Senior Center.

The event was attended by over 30 seniors, ranging in ages from the 50s to the 90s, according to Bethany Loveless, senior activities coordinator.

After lunch, Groton Fire Chief Joseph Bosselait presented information on smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, plus other fire safety issues feared toward seniors. They included the File of Life, a personal list of contacts and telephone numbers, including medical information involving doctor, medications and conditions, to keep on hand in case of emergency.

Seniors also received take-home fire safety gifts from the fire department, including oven mitts.

Bosselait said a grant was received from the Department of Public Health, the Friends of the Groton Elders and a partnership with Moisen's Hardware in Groton, whom he thanked for helping to fund carbon monoxide detectors for seniors in need of one.

If any senior missed the event and would like information, contact the Groton Fire Department at 978-448-6333.
