FITCHBURG -- Workers' Credit Union gave United Way of North Central Massachusetts Annual Campaign Drive a major boost through their fundraising efforts.

The credit union has raised and received pledges from their employees and corporate giving of $89,827 for the 2013-2014 campaign drive.

"The employees support of United Way is really impressive, " said Doug Petersen, president and CEO of Workers' Credit Union. "Because of the great work United Way does, the employees get behind the effort by hosting a variety of events to raise money in addition to payroll giving.

The 15-branch credit union, with offices from Orange to Acton and Chelmsford, has raised over $1 million dollars for United Way over the past 20-years.

Petersen said one of the more popular activities is Friday blue jean days, on which employees paid $5 to wear their favorite denim.

Workers' Credit Union, home of the GiveBack program, is headquartered in Fitchburg.
