Fruit Kebabs & GORP
Think outside the box -- create homemade nutritious, fun snacks that will provide a good mix of protein and carbohydrates to fuel kids throughout their day.
Gorp and fruit, a great way to introduce or add seeds and fruit into diets, goes well with plain or vanilla Greek yogurt. Invite kids to create their own snacks, including a few extra "grab-and-go" servings for after-school drives to sports practice or dance lessons. As always, choose the healthiest ingredients with no additives or preservatives.
Fruit Kebabs: Thread fruit, washed and cubed, onto wooden skewers -- strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, grapes, melon, pineapple; finish off with a berry. Cubes of cheese will add protein.
Gorp: Combine ingredients in a bowl, then fill snack-size baggies with 1/2 to 1 cup portions.
1/4 cup raw unsalted almonds
1/4 cup tamari almonds
1/4 cup roasted, salted sunflower seeds
1/4 raw, shelled, unsalted pumpkin seeds
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1/4 cup Ghirardelli premium chocolate chips
1 tablespoon raisins
1 tablespoon dried cranberries
1 tablespoon dried coconut flakes, unsweetened
