TOWNSEND -- Atwood Acres opened 25 years ago. The 50-unit apartment building offers housing for the elderly and disabled.

On Friday, Sept. 5, RCAP Solutions will hold a celebration to mark the occasion. From 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m., folks are welcome to stop by the housing complex on 66 Dudley Road.

At noon, speakers from RCAP and the Townsend community will address the audience. After that, refreshments, tours and entertainment are in store.

Residents have been planning the goodies for quite some time, said Maribeth Conrad, property manager. Residents gather for celebrations throughout the year.

Two of the residents, Beulah Greenough and Catherine Wilson, have lived in the building since it opened, she said. Both plan to make an appearance at the celebration.

Atwood Acres was developed and is managed by RCAP. In 2012, RCAP opened Townsend Woods, a 36-unit senior housing building located behind Atwood Acres.

The nonprofit corporation, celebrating its 45th year, works to provide affordable housing and other services in the northeast and in Puerto Rico.

"We're pleased to have a 25-year relationship with Townsend," said Karen A. Koller, president and CEO of RCAP. "This is a big part of our mission."
