TOWNSEND -- The Townsend Military Band will play a special Independence Day program at its Thursday evening, July 3, concert on the Townsend Common.

Patriotic tunes and songs from well known American musicals will be featured in the concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Boy Scout Troop 10 will have a concession set up at the rear of the Common that evening, where concertgoers may purchase food and beverages between 6:30 and 9:15 p.m. They will be offering hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches and sausages with peppers and onions for sale. Cold soda and bottled water will also be available for purchase.

Another nonprofit group is currently being sought to run some activities for children on the Common during the July 3rd Townsend Band Concert.

The Townsend Military Band will open its concert by playing Goldman's "On Guard" march and "Shenandoah" arranged by Tichele. Grafulla's "Echoes of the 1860s," the "Harlem Nocturne" by Hagen and Handel's "Royal Fireworks Music" will be included in the first portion of the concert.

Warrington's "Dixie Jamboree," "South Pacific" by Rodgers and "Musical Memories on the Homefront" arranged by Christenson will be played following intermission. "Stars and Stripes Forever" by Sousa and "America the Beautiful" by Ward will be performed before the Townsend Military Band concludes its concert at 9:30 p.m. by playing the "Star Spangled Banner" by Key.
