Friends of Townsend Seniors accepting nominations for Wm. E. May Endowment Fund award

The Friends of the Townsend Seniors are looking for that outstanding individual in the Townsend community who has given of himself or herself to the growth and betterment of the town of Townsend.

Friends President Russ Moore explains that candidates will be well-respected and will have demonstrated through actions and deeds a keen interest in the affairs and needs of the senior citizens of Townsend.

Nominations are now open for this year's honoree for the 2014 William E. May Endowment Award.

Past awardees include: William E. May, Dr. Lawrence Churchville Jr., Roy and Nancy Shepherd, Jim Clish, Ethel Amiro, Bob Tumber, Ed and Mary West, Hirk and Louise Fortin, Connie Giles, Terry McNabb, David Profit, Avis Roy, Russ Moore and Ken and Susan Gerken.

Nomination forms are available at the Senior Center (978-597-1710), McNabb's Pharmacy and the Town Clerk's Office.

If someone was nominated in the past and not selected, please consider resubmitting that individual for consideration. Nomination forms should be placed in a sealed envelope, marked "William E. May Nomination" and mailed to Friends of Townsend Seniors, P.O. Box 972, Townsend, MA 01469 or dropped off at the Senior Center. They must be received by June 6.



Thursday band concerts

The Townsend Military band will perform a concert on the Townsend Common Thursdays this summer, starting at 7:30 p.m. and ending at 9:30 p.m. Before and during the concerts, lawn parties will be held on the common offering food and games, sponsored by local nonprofit groups. All are invited to attend!

Townsend Library concert June 27

The Townsend Public Library Welcomes "Black Marmot" for a night of Live Music at the library. Join us for a fun, musical evening; you don't have to use your library voices! We will stay open until 9 p.m. Music will be in the main hall of the library. Librarians will be on staff to check out books, movies etc.!

This program is partially funded by our Townsend Cultural Council and the Townsend Library Endowment.

Music Starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. We will have extra tables set up around the library. Sit and listen to the music. Coffee, tea and desserts, too!

Black Marmot is a sometimes powerful, sometimes introspective mix of rock, folk and alt-country, led by a female singer and complete with vocal harmonies and intricate arrangements.

Townsend Methodist Church indoor yard sale June 28

Townsend United Methodist Church's annual indoor yard sale is Saturday, June 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The church is located at 265 Main St.

This is the time of the year for seasonal cleaning and recycling your no longer needed items. Chairman Marcia MacMaster invites area residents to call the church if you have items to donate.
