SHIRLEY -- In 1988, a group of Shirley people gathered to discuss building a new playground on the Benjamin Hill property. They found a designer, had planning sessions with school children, held fundraisers, got the help of the Army Corps of Engineers, had a huge work party and 25 years later, we still have a great play place in Shirley.
In July, the Shirley Historical Society is cooperating with several other groups to have a party to celebrate the Mystical Maze. It will be held Saturday, July 12, and will start at 6 p.m. with a picnic supper.
As part of the evening's program, there will be a slideshow presentation depicting the history of the maze. If you have any playground stories to share or any photos of children playing at the site, please loan them to the Shirley Historical Society Museum to be included.
For more information, phone the museum at 978-425-9328 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The museum is open Mondays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., for visitors and researchers.
