PEPPERELL -- Three Pepperell residents have been chosen as nominees to be Grand Marshal of Pepperell's annual Fourth of July parade.
Phil Durno, Kathy Harris and Justin Zink were chosen as the nominees based on their records of service to the Pepperell community.
Ballots to choose the Grand Marshal are available at Town Hall, Lawrence Library, Donelan's, North Middlesex Savings Bank, Cumberland Farms and Pepperell Family Pharmacy through June 20.
"Our Parade Grand Marshals have always been someone who have dedicated themselves to the community, volunteered their time, been a role model to us all, and who have contributed to make Pepperell the wonderful community it is," Fourth of July Committee President Carol Gates wrote on the group's Facebook page announcing the nominees.
All three candidates are heavily involved in the town. Durno is a member of the Board of Health and President of the Friends of Pepperell Seniors, as well as being an active attendee of many town meetings.
Harris is the chairwoman of the Pepperell Housing Authority, and has volunteered with the Senior Center and the Relay for Life fundraiser at North Middlesex Regional High School.
Zink serves the town as a lieutenant with the Pepperell Fire Department, and is active as a volunteer on many projects through the Fire Department.
Gates said that each of the three candidates exemplifies the qualities that they are looking for a in Grand Marshal.
"When we look for a Grand Marshal, we look for some one who has given to this community through volunteerism, leadership, being a leader, someone we can all look up to," Gates said. "These three have demonstrated these qualities and so much more time and time again. We are so blessed to live in a place where people like this are so near."
