TOWNSEND -- The Townsend VFW Post 6538 Ladies Auxiliary was honored at the 2014 Department of Massachusetts Ladies Auxiliary VFW Convention held recently in Marlborough.

The Townsend VFW Ladies Auxiliary received numerous citations and monetary awards for outstanding participation in and contributions to the programs of the national and state Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliaries.

The Townsend Ladies Auxiliary VFW is in Membership Division 3, which is comprised of auxiliaries with 70 to 119 members. It received second-place honors in Division 3 for its Cancer Aid and Research Program. It placed first in Division 3 in the Americanism, the Hospital, the Legislative, the Scholarships and the Veterans and Family Support Programs.

The Townsend Ladies Auxiliary is especially proud to have been named the Auxiliary of the Year in Membership Division 3 at the June 2014 State VFW Ladies Auxiliary Convention.

There are currently 82 members in the Townsend VFW Post 6538 Ladies Auxiliary. Membership is open to wives, widows, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters or sisters of persons who are or were eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Members must be citizens of the United States or United States nationals and not less than 16 years old. Women who are eligible for membership in the VFW are eligible for membership in the Ladies Auxiliary.
