Free dinner, live music and good company on Friday, May 30

All are welcome to the next Groton Community Dinner on Friday, May 30, at First Parish Church at the intersection of Routes 40 and 119 in Groton. Dinner is served continuously from 5:45-7 p.m. Come for live music, delicious food, and good company.

The menu for May 30 includes house salad, Tuscan herbed chicken or Tuscan herbed soy with white beans, fresh asparagus and rhubarb and apple crisp.

An Evening of Storytelling for Grown-ups May 31

...Saturday, May 31, at 7 p.m. at First Parish Church of Groton Unitarian Universalist church for An Evening of Storytelling for Grownups. The church is located at 1 Powderhouse Road, Groton.

Patterned after the radio show "The Moth," and set in a coffeehouse atmosphere with refreshments, storytellers will tell engaging true stories without a script. You will hear stories that make you laugh, cry or both. Some may contain mature subject matter not suitable for children.

The suggested donation is $10. All proceeds will go to First Parish Church.

Groton Republicans host pot luck supper June 4

The Groton Republican Town Committee will host a pot luck supper Wednesday, June 4, at its meeting at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center.


This more informal meeting will be a discussion of the year's activities and plans for the fall election cycle.

Fixing our broken democracy June 5

A program entitled "Fixing our broken democracy," will be held Thursday, June 5, from 7-8:45 p.m. at the Groton Public Library Community Room, first floor, 99 Main St., Groton.

This 90-minute workshop sponsored by Greater Boston Move to Amend traces the evolution of corporate power and the erosion of our democracy. We will discuss why we need an amendment to the United States Constitution to keep big money out of politics and restore the democratic power of our vote; and the strategy to accomplish this as part of the growing bi-partisan national organization, Move to Amend.
