Motor vehicle accidents

On Tuesday, April 22 at 12:28 p.m., a two-vehicle collision was reported on Front Street. According to the accident report, vehicle one, operated by a Townsend resident, had stopped to take a left turn when vehicle 2, operated by a Fitchburg resident, hit it from behind. Neither driver was injured and only minor damages resulted. The second operator was issued a warning citation.

On Saturday, April 26, police responding at 6:26 a.m. to an accident on Lancaster Road near Mitrano Removal Service observed on arrival that the drivers of the two vehicles involved were exchanging paperwork. The vehicles, a black Mercedes and a black Chevy, were both operated by Shirley residents. According to the police report, vehicle 1 was exiting a side street, Windsor Road, when it collided with vehicle 2, traveling south on Lancaster Road, damaging the rear driver's side door and bumper. The driver stated she didn't see the other vehicle when she pulled out. Neither driver was injured.

There were two accidents on Tuesday, April 29. The first, reported at 6:50 a.m., occurred when a truck traveling on Front Street tried to pass a car turning into the post office parking lot. According to the crash report, the truck driver admitted fault, stating that he had misjudged his clearance. The truck, which belonged to a Londonderry, N.H. firm, struck the other vehicle, sending it onto the sidewalk. Nobody was injured.


The second accident that day was reported at 5:52 p.m. and also involved two vehicles. Vehicle 1, operated by a Lunenburg resident, was traveling on Leominster Road when it was struck by vehicle 2, operated by a Shirley resident who stated that she didn't see the other vehicle coming as she turned left onto Leominster Road from Catacunemaug Road. She was issued a warning citation for failure to yield while taking a left turn. No injuries were reported. The ambulance responded but both drivers refused emergency services. Vehicle 2 was towed.
