PEPPERELL -- Deb Penney spends every Tuesday and Thursday babysitting her granddaughters, 17- month-old Emily and 5- month-old Lyla. Little did she know that quality time would turn into a $10,000 opportunity.

Penney, a Pepperell resident, and her family were selected as one of three finalists for an upcoming episode of "America's Funniest Home Videos," based on a video she shot of the girls taking a nap.

In the video, the girls fall asleep at the same time, only to wake up as soon as Penney comments on it.

"Emily never ever takes a nap, and so for them to take a nap together at the same time, it's a miracle," Penney said.

She said the timing of everything in the video, particularly Lyla waking up seemingly on cue, was what made it so funny.

"I think a lot of people, especially people that have little kids, can kind of relate to the fact that you never get a moment's peace. And so when it actually happened, I was just putting it on because I thought I would just be able to tell people that I actually had them sleeping at the same time," Penney said.

If the studio audience of the episode, which airs this Sunday, votes their video as number one, the family will win $10,000. They could also get $3,000 for second place or $2,000 for third place.

The show flew the family out to California for four days for the taping, and Penney said the staff at "AFV" made the trip a great one.

"They were so accommodating.

They really made us feel comfortable, they got us direct flights so we didn't have to worry about going up and down with the girls," Penney said.

But although meeting host Tom Bergeron was a highlight, she said the best part about the trip was getting to spend time with her family.

"Just being able to spend vacation with my sons and their kids was such a worthwhile experience, whether we won anything or not," Penney said. "The whole experience of it was the best part, getting to spend time with my kids and my grandkids."

Although the show taped in March, she can't talk about the results until after the show airs. But the winning family will participate in a special show against other episode winners, where the overall winner gets $100,000.

The episode airs this Sunday, May 4 at 7 p.m. on ABC. If they win on May 4, they may be on the $100,000 show, which will air May 11.
