TOWNSEND -- The selectmen race is the most heavily contested in Townsend, where the ballot for all town races is nearly set, pending final certification of all candidates by the Board of Registrars.
There are four candidates for the open selectmen seat, which was vacated by Robert Plamondon in November - Ron Dionne, Don Klein, Laura Shifrin and Carolyn Smart.
Dionne has served on the Board of Water Commissioners and the Townsend Housing Authority. Klein is the town's Fire Chief, but is retiring on March 28. Shifrin is the owner of Townsend Center Realty and has served on both the Board of Assessors and the Townsend Housing Authority. Smart is a member of the Finance and Capital Planning Committees, and previously served as the acting town administrator.
The Town Clerk position is also contested, with Nancy Rapoza and Kathleen Spofford both running. Current Town Clerk Susan Funaiole is not running.
Randee Rusch is running unopposed for reelection to the North Middlesex Regional School Committee. There are three at-large positions open on the committee, but Rusch is the only Townsend resident running.
The Board of Water Commissioners has two positions open, one for a 3-year term and one for a 1-year term. Andrea Wood and Patrick MacFarlane are running for the 3-year term. Nathan Mattila is running for the 1-year term. Michael MacEachern will be on the ballot for one of the two positions, but hasn't made a final decision yet on which one.
Deborahanne Mayer is running for the Amanda E.
Albert Boucher is running unopposed for reelection to the Cemetery and Parks Commission, James LeCuyer is running for reelection to the Board of Health and Cheryl Cloutier is running again for Library Trustees.
Perry Tomasetti is running for the 4-year term on the Planning Board and Christopher Nocela is running for the 5-year term. Both are incumbents. No one is running for the 3-year term.
David Schuttler is running for reelection to the Recreation Commission.
Susan Congdon will be on the ballot for the Housing Authority.
Keith Jackson is running for the veteran position on the Trustees of Soldier's Memorial. No one is running for the non-veteran spot.
No one is on the ballot for the Board of Assessors or Trust Fund Commissioners, but those positions could be filled by a write-in candidate.
