SHIRLEY -- Despite yet another winter snowstorm, Shirley's historic Center Town Hall was rocking with party revelers the evening of Feb. 15. The occasion was a Valentine's dance party with DJ Bob Wright, and a cash bar provided by The Bull Run Restaurant.

The party's modest admission of $3 per person covered baked goods, snacks, pizza, party favors and plenty of dance music. Also available were beverages and several raffles of handmade jewelry.

From the "Harlen Shake" by Harry Bauer Rodrigues, the "Macarena" by Los Del Rio, to "Shout" by the Isley Brothers, Wright played something for every age group. The joint was jumping.

Arranged and hosted by Center Town Hall Committee Chair Jodie Rachman, the dance was a fundraiser for Shirley parent Heather Morse, who is battling Stage IV breast cancer that has spread to her liver.

A mother of three sons who works with special-needs children, Morse was first diagnosed in 2006. She has been working two and three jobs throughout all of her chemotherapy treatments over the years, but her medical expenses and related costs, says her family, are piling up.
