ShirleyArts! is a certified nonprofit corporation that will have its annual meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ayer-Shirley Middle School.
The mission of ShirleyArts! is to sponsor and promote the visual and performing arts for education and enjoyment. Many adults and children from Shirley and surrounding communities have participated in or attended ShirleyArts! productions. From Christmas concerts that raise funds for local charities, to the children's summer musical, to plays for adults and even ukulele classes, hundreds of people are affected by the programs run by ShirleyArts!.
The officers and board of directors and volunteers do most of the work throughout the year, but a general membership meeting must be held to officially elect these people, and a quorum of members is needed to participate in this vote.
This year, there will be a brief presentation before the meeting. At 7:15 p.m., the cast of "The (Almost) Totally True Story of Hansel and Gretel" will do a brief presentation in the auditorium at the middle school. Then at 7:30 p.m., the board will give a report on its activities for 2013 and proposals for 2014. Then there will be an election of officers.
Suggestions and support for upcoming events are always needed. Volunteers to help on stage, backstage and off-stage make it possible to have from 10 to 12 productions every year. However, in order to vote at the meeting, people must become a member by paying the annual dues; $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 7-17, with a maximum of $50 for a family membership.
Besides giving people the opportunity to vote at meetings, the dues also help pay for rental of the organization's storage space, and help fund some of the charity programs the group does.
