Are you ready to make a difference?
Do you have a car and some free time?
If your answer is YES, the Shirley COA would like to talk to you about a new program we are launching to help seniors with their medical appointments. We would like you to give us a call and help us with a couple of programs that are vital to our seniors.
1. Volunteer needed to deliver Meals-on-Wheels.
If you have a driver's license, a car and a desire to help people, we could use your help.
The Shirley Council on Aging is looking for a person with high moral character, a sense of dedication and a sense of humor to deliver meals to shut-ins. Currently, we are looking for alternate drivers to fill in when the regular delivery person is ill or on vacation. Over time, these usually evolve into a one day a week regular slot as people retire from delivering or move away. The job would be from about 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You would be paid mileage and a great sense self-achievement for your effort.
If this kind of "feel good" activity interests you, contact us at 978-425-1390.
2. Would you like to be an angel?
We are looking for a pool of volunteers to help us continue to provide reliable and friendly escort service to seniors who are unable to drive and need transportation to medical events. The angels will be used when the van schedule is full or for trips that are outside the geographical areas where the van usually goes. Most likely trips would be to Emerson in Concord, perhaps Worcester and occasionally to Boston.
We will do a CORI background check and then train you on the basic "dos and don'ts" for people in this kind of a volunteer role. You will need to have a valid driver's license, sufficient liability coverage on the automobile, a good disposition and the physical ability to help seniors in and out of cars and perhaps, to push a wheelchair. You, as a volunteer, will be paid mileage but your time will be donated.
Interested? Call us at 978-425-1390. We are in serious need of additional drivers, especially with the winter upon us.
