GROTON -- Renowned singer-songwriter Livingston Taylor will perform Saturday evening, Feb. 1, at the Groton Performing Arts Center to benefit the Groton-Dunstable High School Chamber Choir's Europe tour in April.
After performing at the 2012 Olympics in London, the Chamber Choir, under direction of Music Director Timothy Savoy, has again been invited to tour abroad. The trip will take them to Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic to perform at historic cathedrals and festivals during Holy Week.
"The Olympic trip was an amazing experience for the kids and a great success," Savoy said. "After performing at England's Canterbury Cathedral, they were honored with an offer to be the stand-in choir for the Cathedral's House Choir." That honor and the invitation to tour abroad again are outstanding achievements beyond the Chamber Choir's continuing successes in regional and national competitions.
The Chamber parent group has committed more than $80,000 toward the upcoming Europe tour but needs approximately $29,000 to help supplement students that would not otherwise be able to go. The goal is to enable the entire 30-member Chamber Choir to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime student experience.
The Chamber Choir will perform with Taylor during his benefit concert on Feb. 1. The Performing Arts Center is at 344 Main St. (Groton-Dunstable Middle School) in Groton. Advance tickets are $35; tickets at the door are $45.
Doors open for general admission at 6 p.m., with a silent auction preceding the concert, which begins at 7 p.m.
