SHIRLEY -- Looking for things to do as the weather turns cooler?

Stop by and try the activities. We have a number of GREAT PROGRAMS.

For those who made "getting in shape" a goal for the New Year, we have Senior Fitness -- a class designed for seniors that includes weight-training and Pilates and is geared toward each individual's needs. The classes are held on Tuesday nights at 5:30 p.m. or Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m.

Need something a little calmer? Well, we have a couple of good answers. On Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., we have Qigong. It is a relaxing, simple form of Tai Chi, which helps your mind, body and spirit to relax and feel free. On Thursday mornings from 9-10 a.m., we have CHAIR YOGA. Have trouble getting up off the mat? NO PROBLEM. We use chairs not mats. It's relaxing and helps with your flexibility. Stop by and try it for free.

Remember, we have expanded BINGO from once a month to three times/month. In addition to having BINGO after the monthly lunch, we are now playing on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. Same rules, same games, same fun.

On the first and third Thursdays, we have RUMMIKUB -- a card game played with tiles. It is fun and mentally stimulating. A nice mix to help you keep your mind sharp.

If you are the creative type, we have resumed the painting classes with a lot of flexibility for you. You can paint in oil or watercolor, you can have instruction or just use the time to paint on your own.

It's your call. Willa Desousa, a former high school art teacher, will work with you at whatever level of skill you have and help you attain a higher level of artistic ability.

As always, we have Wii bowling on Monday' from 1-4 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Both start the week of Jan. 13.

Card time is hot. Every Monday from 1-4 p.m., stop by and play Rummy, Canasta or Cribbage with friends or make new friends. There is Bridge every Tuesday starting at 9:30 a.m. Forgot how to bid? No problem: Stop by, watch, play, learn and enjoy.

We also have Mexican Train Dominos on Tuesdays 10 a.m. A unique and fun way to play Dominos.

The Senior Lunch is on Weds., Jan. 15. It will be made-from-scratch and delicious. It starts at 11:30 a.m. Afterwards, relax with Bingo. Last month, we had over 20 players enjoy themselves.

The Senior Breakfast is on Monday, Jan 27. It is $2 and worth $10. Stop by, enjoy the food and the warm company. Don't forget the Choice café on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Remember that these are lunches that you need to call ahead and make a reservation for. We need you to call by the Monday morning of the week the lunch is being held (Jan. 6 and 20).

We have a senior information session on Monday, Jan. 6. Paula Evans from the Mass. College of Pharmacy will be here to talk about food and medicine interaction. She will also be doing a "brown bag" session so if you are concerned about how all your medicines interact, bring a list and ask Paula. She will be available after the formal talk is over. There is something for everyone. See you at 10 a.m. on the 6th.

We also have two "Senior Safety Programs." One is the Annual "Sand4Seniors." Any senior who wants sand, give us a call at 978-425-1390. Thanks to the Boy Scouts and the DPW, we can have it delivered to your door to help you in the ice and snow. Another program is "Detectors4Seniors." We have a limited number of carbon monoxide and/or smoke detectors available for seniors who need them. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A CO or smoke detector, call us. DO NOT TAKE THE RISK of going without for another winter.

There is NO Pizza and Movie for January since the first Wednesday is New Years Day.

Seems like a busy time at the center. See you there?
