In accordance with MA DEP's Water Management Act Permit issued to MassDevelopment, a mandatory water restriction is to be placed in affect whenever the USGS local stream gauge #01096500 -- Nashua River at East Pepperell is below a specified trigger point for three consecutive days.
The reading Thursday, Sept. 19, was below the threshold and had been for three consecutive days and so we are now required to institute water-use restrictions.
Signage has been posted at the entrances to Devens. Nonessential water use will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and that usage includes:
-- Irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems.
-- Washing of vehicles, except in a commercial car wash or as necessary for operator safety.
-- Washing of external building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement.
The river gauge readings must be above the threshold for seven consecutive days before the restriction can be lifted. At that time, the signage will be removed and an email will be sent out to everyone that is on this distribution list.
