FITCHBURG -- Habitat for Humanity North Central Massachusetts is looking for families in need of simple, decent and affordable homes to be built in Fitchburg and other towns in North Central Massachusetts in 2013 and 2014.

Habitat homes are not given away, but sold at cost with a no- or low-interest mortgage. Partner/homeowners work alongside Habitat volunteers and staff to help build the home.

Interested applicants must:

* currently live in substandard or inadequate housing,

* have a steady source of income,

* earn less than 60 percent of the median income for the area (ex. family of four with income less than $51,720 per year),

* be willing to help build their home and others.

Financed through Habitat for Humanity with 20-30 year, no- or low-interest mortgages, the final price for the home will be approximately $120,000 with monthly payments ranging between $650 and $850, depending on income and length of mortgage. Less than perfect credit or lack of savings may not prevent qualification for a Habitat mortgage.
