TOWNSEND -- The Townsend VFW Post #6538 Ladies Auxiliary is sponsoring a poster contest for students in grades 3 and 4, in conjunction with the Department of Massachusetts Ladies Auxiliary VFW. The theme is "What symbol best portrays the U.S.A.?"

Entries should be on construction paper or poster board and be no smaller than 8.5 inches by 11 inches and no larger than 18 inches by 24 inches. The student's name should not be visible on the front of the poster, but should be clearly printed on the back.

The Townsend Auxiliary will award $15 to its first place poster contest winner, $10 for second place, and $5 for third place. The Townsend Auxiliary will submit its first winning poster entry into the state competition, where the Department of Massachusetts Ladies Auxiliary VFW will award $100 to the first place state poster contest winner. The Department Ladies Auxiliary will present $75 to its second-place winner and $50 to its third-place finisher.

All poster contest entries should be submitted to Townsend VFW Post #6538 Ladies Auxiliary President Betty Mae Tenney by Friday, Feb. 15. Students attending the Spaulding Memorial Elementary School in Townsend should submit their entries to Tenney through their classroom teachers.
