Marine Corps PFC Kevin Bendel of Pepperell earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C., on Nov. 16.

Lasting 13 weeks, Bendel endured what is considered to be the toughest recruit training in the military. During the process he learned the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment. Training included close order drill, rifle sharpshooter qualification, Marine Corps Martial Arts, Military history, customs and courtesies. Prior to graduation, Bendel endured the Crucible, a 54-hour evolution testing each recruits resolve and stamina simulating combat situations with extensive marching, sleep deprivation and focus on teamwork.

PFC Bendel is a 2012 graduate of Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua.
