Nashoba Regional showed its mettle on a cross country course Thursday with several strong performances in the Mid-Wach B league meet at Hollis Hills Farm in Fitchburg.

The Nashoba boys finished second overall with 36 points, finish a single point behind Westboro for the title.

Chris Yapp came in third overall for the Chieftains, while Allin Oberlies (5th) Freddy Collins (8th) and Dylan Whalen (9th) added top-10 showings on the 5k course.

Fitchburg was fifth with 155 points, led by Zach Scott's 36th place finish.

On the girls side, Akexandra Bettez finished first overall with a time of 19:38 to lead the way for Nashoba, which finished fourth as a team with 75 points. Fitchburg's Lina Kherallah took 10th place.

Groton-Dunstable ran away in the girls' team standings, taking first with 23 points.

In the Mid-Wach A league meet, Leominster finished fifth in both the boys' and girls' competition.

Jayden Kinthua led the Blue Devil boys (149 points) with a 24th-place finish, while Erin Bousquet's 33rd-place showing paced the Leominster girls (155 points).

The Blue Knights advance to face the winner of tonight's game between No. 16 North Brookfield and top-seeded Quaboag in a Central Mass. Division 2 quarterfinal on Sunday.

Volleyball

The Chieftains advance to host No. 5 Medway in a Central Mass. Division 2 quarterfinal on Monday at 6 p.m.

Set scores were 25-8, 25-14, 25-13.

Brie Donahue notched 14 service points, including 8 aces, to go with 6 kills in the win. Jane Keaveney had a strong night with 11 assists.

The Patriots end the season with a record of 11-10.
