GROTON -- One week to go for the best chicken barbecue in West Groton.

Christian Union Church, 37 West Main Street, West Groton will be holding their 2nd annual drive up chicken BBQ on Saturday, June 9 starting at 4 p.m. until sold out. Chickens cooked by the RWGF (Retired West Groton Firemen). This famous event was sold out last year in 1 hour. Don't get caught this year missing out.

Line up in front of the church, someone will be walking up and down the sidewalk selling tickets; purchase your ticket(s) and move on up to the pick up point (stay in line) where your meals will be handed to you in your vehicle, and wave good bye as you travel on. New England Ringers plan concert

GROTON -- Union Congregational Church would like to invite you to to see The New England Ringers Spring 2018 concert: Color Wheel!

The New England Ringers will be lead by their new director, Brian Seemann during the June 10 concert, 4:30 p.m. at Union Congregational Church in Groton. Tickets are $10 at the door or online at uccgroton.net.

This concert will feature composers including Philip Glass, "All That Jazz" (from the musical Chicago), Debussy's "Rêverie," and "Waterfall" (by the Piano Guys).

"Out of the Silent Planet," will also be played, an ambitious piece inspired by C. S. Lewis' novel that takes full advantage of six octaves of hand chimes and seven octaves of hand bells and will incorporate several unusual techniques.

Author! Author! Meet them at the library

TOWNSEND -- The Townsend Library and Meeting Hall, 12 Dudley Rd., Townsend, will be bustling with activity soon.

Friends of the Townsend Library Used Book and Media Sale will be held on Friday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, June 9, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Meeting Hall.

Featured will be several local authors with new books to purchase. Authors for book signing on both days are: Richard and Mary Ellen Letarte, Al Struthers, Joe Simoneau, Nancy Filllipand, and Willam May. Saturday only are authors: Phil Soletsky, E.E. Holmes, Nathan Di Perri, Kathy Salanitro and Jennifer Morris. Come see Markus and Leslie's donated paintings, which are up for bid until June 9.

Also, the Craft Supply Sale will held in the Children's Library area from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 9. Donations of books, media and craft supplies are now being accepted during regular library hours. ShirleyFest finalizes schedule

SHIRLEY -- The Schedule of Entertainment for ShirleyFest on Saturday, June 9 has been finalized with something for every age group.

11a.m. Ayer Shirley Middle School Chorus,11:30 a.m. Zumba, noon to 1:30 p.m. Ashbrook and Hayes, 1:30 p.m. Dance Garden Dancers, 2 p.m. Magician Stephanie, 2:30 p.m. Harvard Academy of Dance, 3 p.m. Crazy Hat Parade, 3:15 p.m. Egg Toss Contest, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dixie Land Band .

Of course the dunk tank and bouncy house and children's games will be going all day long. There will be six food booths which benefit local non-profit organizations plus 23 sales and information booths.

Both the Fire Department and the Police Department will have vehicles on display and information to share with the community.

Everything will be on the Common in Shirley Center. There is still space for a few more crafts tables.
