Wachusett (12-2) and Groton-Dunstable (12-1) may be tied for the title of best girls' basketball team in all of Central Mass., especially after G-D beat Wachusett by 4 points recently.

High school notebook

I'll be honest when I say that I didn't think anyone in Central Mass. could beat the Mountaineers--Bromfield girls' basketball coach Mike Davidson, one of the really good guys out there, tweeted to me after the score filtered through Friday night, "How does your sock taste?", and I replied, "Like a cheese Danish wrapped in bacon."

Friday's W had to be the Crusaders' signature win of the season, no doubt about it.

The North Middlesex girls are also in the MIAA tournamenbt thanks to their league positioning. The St. Bernard's girls are also on a solid run right now with four straight wins. The Nashoba and Ayer Shirley girls have also snagged tourney bids in the last week. So have the Monty Tech and Notre Dame boys.

A few other notes:

Congrats to Lunenburg/Ayer Shirley's Connor Viviano for scoring his 100th career point in Saturday's 5-2 win over Worcester. And he's only a junior.

Great to talk with Jim Todd, the former Notre Dame of South Street head boys' basketball coach from the 1970s, as well as an assistant at Fitchburg State, head coach at Salem State, and formerly the bench boss of the LA Clippers, on my Thursday Lunchbox on WPKZ Radio last week. He's giving back to Fitchburg State, his alma mater, in helping get the men's basketball program whatever it needs to succeed.

Hadley Beauregard/North Middlesex Girls' Basketball Scoring Record Watch: Her 10 points against Tyngsboro Friday lifted her to the picket fence -- 1,111 points -- and her 18 points against Fontbonne Saturday brought her to 1,129. A little ciphering here, without the guhzintas: she was 13 points away from tying Jen Carson's 1,142 points going into Wednesday night's (weather permitting) game with Westboro.

I've got the feeling there's going to be a party on Route 119 if and when that game is played.
