PEPPERELL -- The Pepperell Garden Club has begun its 50th year. The club recently celebrated with a holiday tea party at the VFW, to which all 30 past presidents since 1968 were invited and 15 attended.
Teapot centerpieces were raffled off after special guest speaker Rita Parisi, from Waterfall Productions, presented her program "Teas in Time: 1908," bringing wonderful thoughts about Christmas in 1908.
In the spirit of Christmas, members brought donations for the Pepperell Aid from Community to Home Food Pantry.
Pepperell Garden Club is active around town. Some members take care of the flowers at the rotary, Town Hall, Senior Center, along Main Street and at the VFW.
The club also holds a large plant sale in May at the Pepperell Senior Center, and offers scholarships to local students who plan to major in horticultural studies in college.
Many members attend summer garden safaris to enjoy the beauty of local gardens. Several have taken classes through Massachusetts Landscape Design Council and are now master gardeners.
The Pepperell Garden Club, which is a member of the Massachusetts Garden Club Federation, meets the second Wednesday of each month, from September through June, at 6:45 p.m., at the Pepperell Senior Center, 30 Nashua Road (Route 111). Meetings include an instructive program. Membership and programs are open to the general public from all towns. For more information, visit www.pepperellgardenclub.org.
