GROTON -- A Groton woman, 68, died as a result of injuries suffered when she was struck by a vehicle while walking along Longley Road on Friday night, according to police.
Emergency crews were called to the area of 534 Longley Road about 6:30 p.m. Friday for a report of an accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, according to police.
Officers arrived to find a woman suffering from severe injuries. Jeffery Shapiro, a spokesman for the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, identified that woman as Ann Murphy, 68, of Groton. Murphy was taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, and from there was transferred by helicopter to Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center in Boston, where she died of her injuries, according to police.
The driver of the vehicle, Kara Miller, 28, of Pepperell, was not injured, according to police. No charges have been filed, but an investigation into the crash remains ongoing with assistance from the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
Groton police said officers from Pepperell, Dunstable and Harvard assisted them at the scene.
