WESTFORD -- Two students in the Automotive Repair program at Nashoba Valley Technical High School tied for fourth place as a team at the recent High School Top Tech Challenge, sponsored by Universal Technical Institute in Norwood.

The students -- Patrick Calnan, a postgraduate from Chelmsford, and Richard Cura, a junior from Townsend -- teamed up to tackle the challenge, which had students compete against two-student teams from other schools in written and hands-on tests involving vehicle parts, brakes, diagnostics and electrical systems.

The top three teams received scholarships, and Nashoba Tech's duo placed just one point out of third place.

In all, 26 teams competed from eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine.
