In an effort to promote shopping local and supporting the local business community, the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce launched its first-ever "Shop Local & Win" contest in November 2013.

This campaign was possible with the support of nine companies that stepped up to underwrite this program: SPS Strategic Payment Systems, Kidders Express, Hometown Bank, The Catalano Companies, Enterprise Bank, The Butler Did It, Murphy Insurance Agency, Fidelity Bank and MCA Promo.

To participate in the drawing, area residents could redeem their receipts at the chamber office (or by mailing them in). For every $50 spent in the Nashoba Valley Chamber region, consumers were entered to win $1,000. When consumers shopped at a member of the Nashoba chamber, their entries were tripled. Receipts had to be dated between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31, 2013.

Over 100 local consumers participated in the Shop Local & Win Campaign with over $51,000 recorded as being spent in the chamber region.

Dick Conway, of Conway Service and Sales in Pepperell, submitted his customers receipts to the chamber to enter them into the drawing. On Jan. 15, one of his customers was selected as the recipient of $1,000.

Jeff Schwarz, chairman of the Board of Directors/President of ISS, lauded Conway for his efforts.

"Mr. Conway is such an asset to the community, always looking for an opportunity to give back to his customers, Pepperell, and the region," said Schwarz.

When presented with a check for $1,000, winner James Boisvert said it best, "It truly does benefit everyone to support a local business!"

Small businesses are the foundation of our community. They create jobs, build our economy and create neighborhoods. When you shop at our local small businesses, you help to support the things that make our community great. Money spent here, stays here.

The Nashoba Valley Chamber encourages all to consider shopping local throughout the year.
