It's not every year you get to see men, both young and old, carrying flaming barrels of tar on their back through the town square. That is, unless you live in Ottery St. Mary, England, that is.

On Nov. 5, villagers carry out a 400-year-old tradition by lighting 17 tar barrels on fire and having a competition with the competitors carrying the barrels on their back through the village.

The event is quite popular, with people from around the world traveling to the West Country to see the event. Perhaps these photos will ignite a desire in you to attend next year.
