A brown dress first worn in 1886 and more than 80 years later by the bride's great-great niece, an orange flapper dress worn in 1928, and an ivory peplum gown from 1995, in ATHM's 'Behind the Veil.'

LOWELL -- "Here comes the bride, all dressed in white."

Wedding season will soon be in full swing and the American Textile History Museum gets into the spirit with its new show Behind the Veil, Brides and their Dresses.

The exhibit, running April 6-August 11, offers an intimate look at generations of wedding gowns and the women who wore them. Included are many stunning gowns, plus photos of the brides and their stories.

Special programs include "The Creative Process" with Tien Chiu, a fiber artist specializing in hand-woven couture who spent a year designing and weaving her own wedding gown, Sunday, April 7, 2 p.m. Also a wedding dress preservation workshop with Kate Tarleton, a textile conservator, Sunday, April 21, 2 p.m., and a program on eco-friendly wedding attire with Lori Del Genis, director and dressmaker at Conscious Elegance Handmade Eco Wedding Dresses, Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. All programs are free and open to the public.

Paul Pedulla, a 1973 Chelmsford High School graduate, is featured in a solo show at the Chelmsford Library on view through April.
