Due to thinning ice and the projected unseasonably warm weather for the next week, the Jan. 20, Ice Fishing Derby at the Townsend Rod & Gun Club has been canceled.

But don't stow that gear away just yet... Another ice fishing derby is already scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Emery Road club beginning with registration at 7 a.m. and fishing fro, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

COST: $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12. There will be a three-fish limit with re-ups at a cost of $15. The kitchen will be open with breakfast, coffee, hot chocolate and lunch available.

The club pond will be stocked with trout but we will need five-inches of ice to go ahead with any ice fishing derby. Hopefully, Mother Nature will bless us with enough cold days between now and Feb. 17 to make enough ice.

Notice will sent out by Wednesday of derby week if the derby is canceled.
