FITCHBURG -- Workers Credit Union announces it has donated more than $32,000 to three area nonprofit organizations as part of its annual GiveBack program. Members earn cash back through the Giveback program and have the choice to keep the cash or return the monies to the community. This year's GiveBack donation is $9,000 more than last year's, a 35 percent increase.

Workers Credit Union distributed the donations this month from its headquarters in Fitchburg. Executives and employees presented the checks to each of the organizations to use for their programs and services. The YWCA of Central Massachusetts received $11,097, the Worcester County Food Bank received $11,299 and the United Way of North Central Massachusetts received $10,260 for its childhood literacy program.

The three nonprofits were chosen by Workers Credit Union and members were given the opportunity to donate their GiveBack funds to the organization of their choice. Workers added its own funds to those donated by its members because of the important contribution these groups make in the region. "We are thrilled to provide these funds for worthy efforts and causes in our community," said Doug Peterson, president and CEO of Workers Credit Union.

The Workers Credit Union GiveBack program is a cash back program that shares profits with its members. Members receive cash back annually based on account and loan balances. Workers Credit Union has given back more than $10 million in GiveBack funds to its members in the last five years.
