GROTON -- On Friday evening, May 30, at the Groton Country Club, the Groton Board of Trade will hold what it hopes is the first of many annual auction fundraisers.
GBOT president and co-founder, Steve Webber, confirmed that, "half of the net proceeds from the auction will go to one or more worthy causes; GBOT will retain the other half for other worthwhile endeavors."
Webber went on to say, "We are very excited about our first major fund-raiser. The Groton Board of Trade's board of directors voted unanimously in favor of this annual fundraiser and fund-sharing plan. GBOT plans to gather donations from local businesses and residents and then auction off those items at the May 30 event.
Joe Fiorentino, GBOT auction chair and a Realtor with EXIT Assurance Realty in Groton, said, "We hope to have 150-plus attendees and 100 or so auction items. We'll have both a live auction and silent auction along with a buffet dinner and cash bar. It should be a lot of fun, and we hope to raise enough money to make a real difference for the selected charities."
This year's beneficiaries are the Groton Country Club and the Free Wellness program of Groton Wellness.
"Ticket prices are $35 ($40 at the door) per person and $200 for a table of eight. We will update our website with that information as we get closer to the event.
The Groton Board of Trade is a group of storefront businesses, farmers/agricultural business owners, corporations, home-based businesses, professionals, organizations and Groton residents working together to foster ties between Groton businesses and the community-at-large.
