HARVARD -- Westford resident Joe Dean is the grand-prize winner of the 23rd annual Ducky Wucky River Race, held Saturday in Harvard.
Dean's ducky was the first to cross the finish line on the Nashua River, where more than 4,000 rubber duckies were dumped into the water to participate in a race sponsored by the Ayer Rotary Club.
The race raised more than $12,000 for charity, said Melissa Fetterhoff, a Rotary Club member and president of the Devens-based Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The grand prize includes two airline tickets and a two-night hotel stay to a destination of the winner's choice, including dinner for two. Previous grand-prize winners have gone to Hawaii, Australia and France, Fetterhoff said.
The race also features dozens of runner-up prizes donated by local businesses, including a membership to Fruitlands Museum and a gift certificate to the Bull Run restaurant in Shirley.
Money from the race goes to local charity causes, including food pantries, youth activities and scholarships.
