LUNENBURG -- Authorities say a 47-year-old Lunenburg woman attacked her boyfriend with an ax Wednesday morning, sending the man to the hospital.

Rhonda Ravanis, of 140 South Row Rd., was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, vandalizing property and resisting arrest. She also damaged a door and broke a window in a neighbor's house, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr.

The boyfriend was in stable but critical condition today at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. He was taken to the hospital shortly after 1 a.m. after police were called to the couple's home.

A dangerousness hearing will be sought for Ravanis, according to the DA.

Ravanis was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday morning in Fitchburg District Court, but she was uncooperative. Judge Andrew L. Mandell ordered her held without bail until she agrees to be arraigned.

The case remains under investigation by the State Police Detectives assigned to District Attorney's Office and the Lunenburg Police.
