TOWNSEND -- The North Middlesex Regional School Committee authorized a 1 percent raise on all stipends for coaches and teachers running after-school clubs for one year, according to School Committee Vice Chair Jonna Clermont.

Clermont said the committee met in executive session Monday night to discuss the stipends, the contract for assistant principals and the custodial contract.

"We had three different contracts to approve, and I think we need to do our due diligence and make sure it's fair all around," she said, while noting the committee will have to vote on a new stipend contract next year.

"We want to make sure it's a fair contract. It takes some time. We're looking into what some other districts are doing with their employees," she said.

School Committee Chair Susan Robbins said the contract for the assistant principals was not approved at Monday night's School Committee meeting.

She said both sides will go back to the table to hash out a contract that's agreeable to both sides.

"We have to talk and find a way to get something we both agree on. Some aspects of the contract were fine, and others weren't obviously. It's not like the entire contract was a problem. There are just a few sticking points," she said.

There are two assistant principals at the elementary school level, two at the middle school level, and two at the high school level.

The assistant principal's contract was supposed to take effect July 1, 2012.

No vote was taken on the custodians contract, which is slated to take effect July 1.

Neither Robbins or Clermont would comment on the discussions had in executive session about the custodial contract or the assistant principal contract, saying that until a contract is put in place, it would be premature to comment on the particulars of either contract.
